Getting started
What is Tailr?
Tailr is a personal stylist. Build your Style DNA once — body, taste, brands, lifestyle — and Lauren designs complete head-to-toe outfits around your closet, the weather, and the occasion. It works for men and women, ages roughly 16–80, and across 1,000+ partner brands.
How long does setup take?
About 5 minutes for the guided Style DNA wizard (you can skip anything that doesn't fit). Adding closet items is optional and you can do it later from /closet.
Is it free to start?
Yes. The Member plan is free forever — 5 outfit generations and 10 stylist questions per day, full Style DNA + saved looks. Paid plans start at $9.99/mo (Plus); Premium ($18/mo) unlocks unlimited everything and the higher-tier AI model.
Do I need to upload my closet?
No. Tailr works great without a closet — it'll style you from brand partners. But adding pieces (photo, barcode, or saving from a generated outfit) lets Tailr style what you already own first, which is usually the better answer.
What devices does Tailr work on?
Any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or phone. There's an iOS app on the way for the App Store. No installation needed today — we're a Progressive Web App, so you can “Add to Home Screen” on iOS or Android for a near-native feel.
How the AI works
How does the AI decide what to suggest?
Every compose runs your Style DNA, weather, occasion, and your closet through a large language model with a strict styling brief. The output goes through three server-side safety nets (no images, no swimwear at non-water occasions, no heavy wool at warm temps) and a multi-layer gender filter before reaching you.
Where do the product recommendations come from?
1,000+ DTC brand storefronts that publish a public Shopify product feed — names you know plus indie labels you might not. Tailr queries them live (cached for speed) and surfaces the closest match to the AI's suggestion within your taste and budget.
Does Tailr train AI models on my data?
No. All AI providers we use (OpenAI, Anthropic, fal.ai) are configured under enterprise terms that prohibit training on Tailr customer data. We don't use your closet, outfits, or chat to train anything. See the AI Disclosure for details.
How accurate is the AI?
Tailr ships outfits at roughly 99% accuracy across the full range of occasions, weather conditions, and catalog modes. Every result passes strict checks for occasion fit, weather appropriateness, fabric sense, and proportion before it reaches you — anything that falls short is caught and re-rolled.
Can the AI be wrong?
Yes. Treat suggestions as starting points, not final word. For high-stakes events (interviews, weddings with strict dress codes, anything safety-related) confirm against the actual requirements. Regenerate, edit, or override anything you don't love.
Does Tailr learn my taste over time?
Yes. A lightweight “Style Genome drift” tracks the looks you like and dislike, then biases future composes along the axes that shifted. No LLM training — just stable heuristics, scoped to your account.
Closet & wardrobe
How do I add items to my closet?
Four ways: photo upload (we identify the piece via vision AI), scan a tag/barcode, add manually, or one-tap save from any generated outfit. Every closet item must have a photo so it renders cleanly in future outfits.
Can I tag closet items with custom categories?
Yes — every item has a + Tag button. Add free-text tags like “Work shirts”, “Beach”, or “Game day”. A filter chip row appears once you've tagged things so you can sort your closet by your own categories.
What is closet-only mode?
A Plus/Premium toggle that forces every piece in a generated outfit to come from items you actually own — no recommendations from brand catalogs. Great for travel packing or styling what you have.
Can I remove items from my closet?
Yes. Each closet card has a Remove link. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Outfits, trips, and try-on
Can I style for trips and events?
Yes. Trip Mode builds a 5–7 outfit mix-and-match capsule for your destination, weather, and Style DNA. For one-off events, the Studio takes an occasion + vibe and returns a focused look.
What's Virtual Try-On?
Upload a body photo once, then preview any garment on yourself before buying — yours from the closet or anything you paste a URL for. The free tier includes 1 try-on per week (watermarked); Plus includes 3 per week (watermarked); Premium try-ons are unlimited with no watermark.
Can I save outfits and organize them?
Yes. Tap the heart on any outfit to save it. Group saved looks into Collections (“Work week”, “Vacation”, “Date night”) from /saved.
Why are some outfits different even when I ask for the same thing?
Variety is by design. We add a small randomization to the AI so asking “a smart casual outfit for work” doesn't serve the exact same shirt+pants every time. You can always regenerate.
Billing & subscriptions
Can I cancel Premium anytime?
Yes. Profile → Billing → Manage opens the Stripe portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep Premium until then. Your Style DNA and saved looks stay even after you downgrade.
Do you offer refunds?
Subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by law. If you were charged in error, email support@tailrstylist.com within 30 days. See Terms §5(d).
When will my card be charged?
Immediately on subscribe, then automatically at each renewal until you cancel.
Will you tell me before raising prices?
Yes — at least 30 days' notice by email. Cancel before the effective date if you don't accept.
What's the difference between the plans?
Member is free: 5 outfit generations + 10 stylist questions/day. Plus ($9.99/mo, 7-day free trial) raises that to 30 generations + 50 questions/day and adds 100 saved looks, 5 trips, conversation memory, and closet-only mode. Premium ($18/mo, 14-day free trial) makes everything unlimited and adds the higher-quality AI model and watermark-free unlimited try-on. Pricing on /pricing.
Data & privacy
What data do you store about me?
Account identity (name, email, picture), your Style DNA, wardrobe, generated outfits, saved looks, trips, stylist chats, usage counts, and billing metadata (no full card numbers). The Privacy Policy lists every category with retention windows.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell or share your personal information as defined under CCPA/CPRA.
Can I download my data?
Yes. Profile → Privacy → Export downloads a JSON file with your profile, closet, saved looks, and trips.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Profile → Privacy → Delete account. Removes your profile, Style DNA, closet, saved looks, trips, and sign-in. We process deletion within 30 days; billing records are retained for tax compliance.
Do you use cookies?
Only essentials: authentication session (Clerk), CSRF, plan tier. No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no cross-site tracking. EU/UK visitors get a consent banner.
Brands, affiliates, and pricing
Why these brands and not others?
We surface from any brand that publishes a public Shopify product feed — easier than a hand-curated list to update and adds new brands constantly. If your favorite brand is missing, tell us at support@tailrstylist.com.
Does Tailr earn money when I click a product?
Sometimes — when you complete a purchase at a partner brand via an affiliate link, Tailr may earn a commission. This never changes the price you pay. See Terms §11 for our FTC affiliate disclosure.
Why is the price wrong sometimes?
Brand prices change minute-to-minute; we cache catalogs for up to 4 hours for speed, so very recent changes can lag. Click through to the brand site for the live price.
Account & technical
What happens when I sign out?
Your account and data stay safe on our servers. Signing back in (any device) restores everything. We do not persist anonymous Style DNA progress to disk before sign-in — only in-memory — so a logged-out visitor on a shared device doesn't leak data to the next person.
I forgot my password.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. From the sign-in screen, choose “Forgot password” for a reset link. Or sign in with the same Google or Apple account you used originally.
Can I change my email or name later?
Yes. Name is in Profile → Account. Email is in Clerk's security panel (Profile → Privacy → Security settings).
Is Tailr available outside the US?
Yes. The interface, AI, and brand catalogs work globally. Most partner brands ship internationally; shipping cost + customs are up to each brand. Local weather defaults work worldwide.
How do I report a bug?
Bottom-right feedback button on any page, or support@tailrstylist.com. Include URL + screenshot if it's visual.
Where can I see what's been shipped?
The release notes list every meaningful update. You can also opt into the “New features” email from Profile → Notifications.
Two-factor authentication?
Yes. Open Profile → Privacy → Manage sign-in & security to enable 2FA via authenticator app or SMS. Strongly recommended.
Style DNA & taste
Getting more out of the wizard + taste evolution.
What if I'm between aesthetics — should I pick more?
Overlap is helpful. “Smart Casual” + “Quiet Luxury” + “Modern” gives Tailr a sharper signal than any one of those alone. Pick the up-to-5 you actually wear right now (not aspirations).
Is the 'avoid color' rule strict?
Yes — avoid is a hard rule. A color you've marked to avoid will never appear in a generated outfit. This is the single highest-leverage signal in your Style DNA. Use it freely.
How does Tailr handle body type?
Body type tunes proportion suggestions (e.g. higher-rise pants on shorter torsos, broader-shoulder cuts on athletic builds). Pick the closest match, not the aspirational one — proportions only work when the input is honest.
Will my Style DNA evolve over time?
Yes. A lightweight “Style Genome” tracks the looks you save / dismiss and biases future outfits. You can also edit any field manually from Style DNA at any time — changes apply on the next generation.
What if I don't pick any brands?
Tailr still works — it'll draw from the full 1,000+ catalog. Brands you pick bias toward similar-vibe brands and tell the AI about your taste tier (Brunello Cucinelli vs Buck Mason vs Banana Republic say very different things about formality + price).
Can I dress for a non-binary or mixed gender presentation?
Yes. Pick “Non-binary” or “Prefer not to say” in your Style DNA — Tailr will draw from both men's and women's catalogs and present a mix. You can also override gender per-outfit from the Studio.
Affiliate & shopping
How buying works when you click through to a brand.
Does Tailr earn money when I click a product?
Sometimes — when you complete a purchase at a partner brand via an affiliate link, Tailr may receive a commission. This never changes the price you pay. See Terms §11 for our FTC disclosure.
Is Tailr a retailer? Do I check out with you?
No. Tailr surfaces products from independent brands. When you tap to buy, you go to the brand's own site for checkout. The brand handles payment, shipping, returns, and customer service. Tailr is not a party to that transaction.
What if a product I bought through Tailr has an issue?
Contact the brand directly — they handle order issues, returns, exchanges, and refunds. If a Tailr link took you to the wrong product or the price didn't match, also let us know at support so we can fix the catalog.
Why aren't all my favorite brands here?
We surface from any brand that publishes a public product feed (mostly Shopify-powered). If your favorite brand uses a custom storefront we may not see them yet. Email us at support and we'll add them to the partnership pipeline.
Can I filter by budget?
Yes — every generation accepts a budget cap. Recommended pieces will stay under it (closet pieces aren't affected since you already own them).
Mobile & app
Using Tailr on a phone — and our iOS app.
Is there an iOS app?
Coming soon to the App Store. Today, Tailr runs as a Progressive Web App in any modern mobile browser — you can “Add to Home Screen” on iOS or Android for a near-native feel.
Is there an Android app?
Same as iOS — Add to Home Screen from Chrome gives you an installable PWA today. Native Android app is on the roadmap after iOS launches.
Does the camera work in mobile browsers?
Yes. The closet uploader, body photo setup, and profile picture all support direct camera capture on mobile — tap “Take photo” (back camera) or “Take selfie” (front camera) to skip the gallery.
Why does my page sometimes look weird after sign-in?
Browsers cache aggressively. If the layout looks stale after a recent feature update, hard-refresh with
Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).Can I get Tailr on Apple Watch / smart mirror / etc.?
Not yet. We're focused on the web + iOS experience first. If you have a specific surface you'd love Tailr on, tell us — that input shapes the roadmap.
Safety & limits
Edge cases, rate limits, and what to do when Tailr says no.
Why did I hit a daily limit?
Free tier is 5 outfit generations + 10 stylist questions per day, resetting daily at midnight UTC (early evening US time). Plus raises both limits (30 and 50 a day); Premium removes them. If you hit a limit, you'll see an upgrade nudge with one-click checkout.
Why won't Tailr generate an outfit for X occasion?
Two possibilities: (1) the occasion is too vague (try adding a specific context like “cocktail dinner” or “outdoor wedding”), or (2) closet-only mode is on and your closet genuinely lacks a category for it. Toggle closet-only off + regenerate.
Can I use Tailr for dress codes (interview, wedding)?
For inspiration, yes — Tailr is excellent at “business formal”, “cocktail attire”, “black tie optional”. For dress codes with hard requirements (religious, ceremonial, safety, professional), always confirm against the actual code rather than trusting the AI alone.
What about plus-size and inclusive sizing?
Our catalog includes several plus-size and size-inclusive brands. The AI doesn't restrict outfits by size — it surfaces real products that the brand stocks; size availability is the brand's responsibility on their site.
Allergies — wool, certain materials?
You can list materials to avoid in your Style DNA. The AI will steer away from them, but always double-check fabric content on the brand's product page for safety-critical allergies.
Is Tailr safe for kids?
Tailr is not for kids under 16. We don't knowingly accept accounts from minors. See the Privacy Policy §10.
