Adding items to your closet

Four ways: photo, scan, manual, and one-tap from a generated outfit.

Closet items are the foundation of styling what you already own. Tailr supports four ways to add them, each suited to a different moment.

Method 1 · Photo upload (the easiest)

  1. Open /closet and tap + Add items.
  2. Choose Photo and pick an image from your phone or computer.
  3. Tailr's vision AI identifies category, color, material, and style — usually within 3 seconds.
  4. Confirm or edit the suggested details, then save.

Works best on flat-lay photos against a plain background. Hangers, mirrors, and worn-on-body shots all work too — just a bit lower confidence.

Method 2 · Scan a tag

  1. In the closet uploader, tap Scan.
  2. Point your camera at the brand barcode or UPC on the item's tag.
  3. If we find it in the partner catalog, the entry pre-fills with the official product photo, name, and details.

Method 3 · Manual

Type the item details by hand — handy for vintage or one-of-a-kind pieces. You still need to attach a photo (it powers how the item renders in future outfits).

Method 4 · One-tap from a generated outfit

See something you love that you actually own? Tap the + Closet button on any piece in an outfit card. We pre-fill everything (image, brand, category, color) — you just confirm.

Custom categories

Every item has a + Tagbutton. Add tags like “Work shirts”, “Beach”, or “Game day” — they appear as filter chips above the closet grid once you've used them.

Tip

Closet items must have a photo. We removed the option to save without one because they rendered as blank tiles in generated outfits — visibly broken. If a photo upload fails, snap a quick one against any backdrop.
